Dear Little Dollies, the doll store at 418 Bedford Avenue since 1987, is closing. Its last day open to the public will be Sunday, December 23.
Maryjane Camilleri and sister Karen Hoffman thank the Bellmore community for all their support over the decades
Maryjane Camilleri, along with sister Karen Hoffman, told Your News Mag the doll store would transition into a web store only, after offering dolls in the roughly 5000 square-foot building for over 30 years. The building will be put up for sale.
“On the internet we will still keep up with the trends,” Camilleri said, but admitted the overhead of maintaining the store had become an issue. “This is the right time for our family” added Hoffman.
Camilleri said the doll shop had created many close relationships with many customers over the decades. “We don’t see those relationships changing” with their store on the internet.
Hoffman characterized the change from a brick-and-mortar establishment to the internet as “walking this path with our loyal customers, who are like family to us.”
When a doll needs mending, Camilleri said the on-line store would be able to refer customers to “doll hospitals” in the vicinity. Previously, customers had been able to bring their dolls to the store for any mending that was required.
Both Camilleri and Hoffman wished to thank the community for all their support over the decades, and hoped to see them soon on the internet.
