Emilio Manzo lived in Bellmore for most of his life. He represented Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and worked with All Island Taxi service, located in the heart of Bellmore Village for many years.
With Emilio, it was not only that he knew Bellmore well, Bellmore knew him well. Emilio was truly a mainstay in the community and the Bellmores are a better place for having had him involved.
He served for many years as the president of the Community Wellness Council of Bellmore/Merrick. In addition, Emilio served on the chamber Board of Directors for over 25 years. In that time, he was involved with many of the town’s committees while working on various fundraiser events.
Emilio was always on board with going that extra step. After Superstorm Sandy, Emilio helped to collect and deliver food and supplies to all the emergency centers. One of Emilio’s true passions was his participation in the Toys for Tots Annual Drive program with the Marine Corps.
He was successfully able to keep much of the toys collected right here in the Bellmores. Emilio always worked behind the scenes doing all the work that too many times went unnoticed.
Emilio worked on the festival committee for the past 23 years, where he was one of the lead persons behind the scenes. Emilio’s dedication, perseverance and passion are clearly a part of the driving forces to the chamber’s success. Aside from driving all over the county, Emilio spent a good percentage of his time checking with the Bellmore businesses to make sure all was well.
He was well loved and respected by all who were lucky to know him. He will be forever missed.
