Superintendent Marie Testa’s B-T-S Message

The 2018-19 school year is in full session, and our returning students have rejoined their friends and met their new teachers for what promises to be another great school year. This summer, many of our teachers attended professional development workshops at the North Bellmore School Teacher center, which focused on student engagement. We are committed to creating a learning environment that fosters creativity and discovery. Children learn best when they can explore, collaborate, question, discuss and problem solve.

Literacy development continues as a hallmark of education in North Bellmore. This year, we will introduce the Fountas and Pinnell Classroom as an extension to our reading instruction in grades K-2. All students in grades K-6 will continue to participate in Writer’s Workshop, which personalizes their literacy experiences. We are grateful that so many families took part in our summer Catch a Reader program in which parents submitted photos of their children reading at home, at the beach, on vacation and many other spots. These pictures were shared on our Twitter feed, @NBUFSDPride, and highlight our community’s dedicated readers.

We strive to develop good citizens, who contribute to the local, national and global communities. Every year, our children show caring and compassion through their many charitable acts that reach far beyond the walls of their schools. We look forward to them not only continuing these initiatives but also coming up with new ideas to make the world a better place.

Our teachers and staff have gone above and beyond to prepare for the new school year, the buildings are in tip-top shape and handling over 2000 bright, enthusiastic and talented learners. The best is yet to come!
