Mill Pond Cleanup Draws Participants

Several groups, led by the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation, bore down on Mill Pond on the Wantagh-Bellmore border to help remove spatterdock and other invasive vegetation that clutters up the pond and shoreline every few years. Here, Hempstead Town Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney (right), joins with Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads (19thLD) and Bellmore Preservation Group’s Eileen Cassaza to display their work toward removing the uninvited vegetation. Also in on the cleanup were South Bellmore Civic Association members, whose charter is it to beautify the south Bellmore community with annual cleanups along Merrick Road.
