The Express Yourself drama club at Calhoun High School pulled off a theatrical performance of “Sleeping Beauty,” accompanied members of the school’s On Tour Company.
“Together the kids put on a great show that was very much enjoyed by students, staff and parents,” said special education teacher Wendy Simson.
Members of the singing group Crescendo also contributed with an a capella rendition of “I Hope You Dance.”
Sophomore Makayla Stapler, a first-year member of Express Yourself, said she “loved being part of a great group and worked very hard to put the show together.”
“I loved working with my buddy in the show and I had an amazing time performing,” added 10th-grader Adrian Cabreja. “It was one of the best shows ever.”
Express Yourself is a drama club that helps students in the district’s special education Prep for Life program improve socialization skills and provides a form of therapy.
