District Seeks Input Regarding Sale of Jerusalem Avenue School

Dear Members of the Bellmore-Merrick Community,

On April 5 the Board of Education hosted a community forum concerning the potential sale of the Jerusalem Avenue School to Nassau BOCES. The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District has owned the Jerusalem Avenue property since 1954, and Nassau BOCES has rented the property from Bellmore-Merrick for the last 19 years.

During the course of the community forum, John DeTommaso, our superintendent of schools, fielded questions from the community on the board’s intent to put the sale of the building up for a referendum in the Fall. Members of the community were encouraged to express their opinions concerning the potential sale of the property.

The board is interested in receiving additional input from the community concerning the potential sale of Jerusalem Avenue School. We encourage members of the community to express your opinions on this matter.  Written statements may be submitted to the district clerk at 1260 Meadowbrook Road, Merrick, New York 11566.  Comments may also be emailed to the Board at BMCHSDBOE@bellmore-merrick.k12.ny.us or to John DeTommaso at jdetommaso@bellmore-merrick.k12.ny.us

We encourage the community to share your input with the board in order that the board may make an informed decision concerning this matter.
