Bulldogs Win County Hockey Championship on Overtime Penalty Shot

The Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs boys hockey team capped an undefeated season with a comeback victory in an overtime penalty shot to capture the Nassau County championship.

The boys secured the win late last month at the Long Beach ice arena in front of a raucous crowd.

The Bulldogs were up 3-0 when Long Beach tied it up and went ahead 4-3. The Bulldogs then tied the score in the final minutes of regulation to get into overtime.

Then, in a thrilling fashion, they won on a penalty shot by junior John Olsen. The final score was 5-4, the Bulldogs.

The team, led by Coach Chris Patten and Coach Lee Mattes, will travel upstate to compete in the New York State Championships March 5-6.
