Louise Pitlake, associate real estate broker at Douglas Elliman Real Estate on Merrick Road, has been named the Merrick Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Professional of the Year.
Meanwhile, Peter Holmstedt, proprietor of the Holmes Service Center on Merrick Avenue, has been named the Merrick chamber’s 2016 Merchant of the Year.
Pitlake’s credentials include being a Chairman’s Circle Award Winner, among many others.
She is also a member of the Merrick Kiwanis Club, her “Club with a Heart,” where she can be found serving pancakes at the annual Pancake Breakfast, or wrapping gifts for the club at Roosevelt Field during Holiday time. She collects school supplies for the needy, and raises funds for Every Woman Matters Walk for the Katz Womans Hospital, a part if the North Shore/LIJ hospital system.
In a nominating letter, it was shown that “..in her 56 years as a Merrick resident and 33-year career as a realtor she has been a top producing local realtor in the neighborhood. Moving to Merrick with her husband Jay, she brought up three children in the same home she still lives in today. She started her career at Skalky Real Estate on Merrick Road, where she propagated a career that spanned many years of working for Custom Built South Shore Real Estate and Prudential Real Estate, before it became Douglas Elliman Real Estate 20 years ago.
When nominating Homestedt as Merchant of the Year, it was noted that “He has owned the station for 45 years, which is nicely landscaped, very clean and always busy. He has donated 1 cent for every dollar pumped to the Camp Avenue firehouse and the Educational Alliance at the Camp Avenue School.” He has also donated to the American Legion Post 1282, among many other organizations.
As a full-service station, his attendants are “always courteous and helpful, and having a thriving business in town for 45 years is quite an accomplishment, certainly deserving of the Merrick Chamber of Commerce Merchant of the Year Award.”
