E-Cycling a North Merrick Success

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, right, gives Nancy and Michelle Kreinsen of North Merrick a helping hand at the Town of Hempstead E-Cycling Program held at Point Lookout Town Park in Point Lookout with their old electronics items recently.

Thousands of Town of Hempstead residents have made an eco-friendly choice by disposing of hundreds of tons of unwanted electronic items during the Town of Hempstead’s e-cycling events. E-cycling keeps toxic material such as lead, mercury and arsenic from entering the waste stream.

In addition, electronic products are made of precious metals, engineered plastics, glass and other materials, which may be profitably refurbished and reused.

While there are no more e-cycling events planned for 2014, call the town’s sanitation department at 378-4210, Option 6, to learn more about what you can do to dispose of old electronic items.
