Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m. is the deadline for Bellmore residents to put their names into the town for a chance to be selected to use one of eight bike lockers available at the Bellmore train station.
Eight winners will be randomly selected on Monday, April 7, and can begin using them that day. Interested parties can call the Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad’s office at 812-3024 to obtain a lottery ticket to enter to win one of eight lockers.
“Any time you can leave the car in the driveway and use a clean means of transportation, it is a victory for our environment,” said Town of Hempstead Supervisor Murray. “We encourage residents to participate in the bike locker lottery for a chance to win use of a bike locker every day for one year.
Each of the bike lockers is 4 feet tall, 6 feet long and 3 ¼ feet wide, all located on the north side of the tracks at the Bellmore train station. Each locker easily fits a standard bicycle, protecting it from damage, theft and bad weather. The town requires a $40 key deposit, which is refunded at the end of the one-year lease. No sub-leasing is permitted.
“Biking instead of driving is great for one’s health and for the environment in the Town of Hempstead,” said Town off Hempstead Councilwoman Angie Cullin. Councilman Hudes added, “Bike tracks are certainly better than carbon footprints, and we encourage residents to try their hand at winning a free bike locker for one year.”
“I am proud to provide bike lockers to eight health-conscious and environmentally friendly commuters from Bellmore,” said Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad
“ ‘Lock up’ of lottery tickets now!” concluded Supervisor Murray.
